World Environment Day was Celebrated at Wabagai Yangbi High School, Kakching District.
On World Environment Day, Shri Narendra Ningomba, Chairman of IRCS Manipur State Branch, presided over the celebration at Wabagai Yangbi High School in Kakching District. The event, held under the joint auspices of IRCS Kakching District and Manipur State Branch, focused on the theme of “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience.”
Distinguished guests in attendance included:
-
Shri Nongmaithem Rajmohan Singh, Ex-Vice Chancellor of Dhanamanjuri University.
-
Shri Naorem Nopur Singh, Proprietor of Bhubon Bricks Field.
-
Shri Laishram Dinesh Singh, Range Forest Officer.
Under the able guidance of Shri Dharmadas, the event unfolded successfully. Representatives from the State branch, including Dr. Laishram Manglem, Shri Nabachandra Athokpam, Shri N. Premjit, and Ms. Karishma Sharma, joined life members, volunteers, Youth Red Cross, and Junior Red Cross members in commemorating the occasion.
The event commenced on June 2nd with various competitions organized by the district team. Outstanding students received categorical rewards. Today, on World Environment Day, students were honoured, and multiple trees were planted. Shri Laishram Dinesh Singh, the Range Forest Officer, generously provided the plants for today’s plantation and observation.
During the event, Shri Nongmaithem Rajmohan Singh, Former-Vice Chancellor, Dhanamanjuri University, highlighted Rachel Carson’s groundbreaking book, “Silent Spring.” Carson’s work exposed the harmful effects of pesticides on nature, emphasizing the need for environmental awareness.
Shri Narendra Ningomba emphasized a profound analogy: “We have two mothers—one who gives us birth and the other who nurtures us.” He stressed that merely planting trees is insufficient; timely care, including water and supplements, is essential for their survival and growth. Treating trees and plants as our family members and providing compassionate care and protection can drive positive change and sustainability.
The event concluded with students and dignitaries planting trees and making a commitment to nurture them. Additionally, an announcement was made to recognize local environmentalists. A cash reward of Rs. 10,000/- will be given based on their contributions to environmental conservation.
