WASH ( Water Sanitation and Hygiene) Programs in Children’s Homes
Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur State Branch, has been continuously conducting WASH Programs (Water Sanitation and Hygiene) to create awareness of Social Behavioral Change (SBC) in various relief camps of IDPs since June 2023 to avoid illness and diseases. The same program has been continued in many hailstorm and flood-affected villages of Imphal East and Imphal West. We have been creating awareness of hygiene and sanitation along with understanding social protection schemes. We have also distributed Hygiene kits, constructed temporary toilets, and installed many Water Filter Units for the IDPs. To the affected villagers of both districts, we have distributed Hygiene kits and solar lanterns, constructed Low-cost toilets, installed Water tanks, and will install 2 Water Filter Units.
As part of these programs, we have been organizing WASH programs at Children’s Homes to create awareness of Social Behavioral Change (SBC). We have discussed the management of safe drinking water, management of toilets, management of solid waste, and sanitation. We taught 7 steps of Hand Washing to the children of Poirei Nawakon, Koirengei, Children Home, Dewlaland, Children Home, Tera Bazar, and Children Home, Tabungkhok. We also handed over Hygiene kits to these children’s Homes.
