The Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur State Branch responded to the recent flood in Manipur along with District Branches.
Manipur experienced a flood this year, at the same time as it did last year. Five districts of Manipur were affected, namely Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Senapati, and Kangpokpi. The Imphal East district was badly affected by this year’s flood. As per the Relief and Disaster Management Department, 1.65 lakhs (approx.) population were affected, more than 35,000 houses were damaged, and more than 82 relief camps were opened. The IRCS, Manipur State Branch, along with the District Branches, conducted an assessment and responded to the affected populations with the available resources. For emergency use to the affected populations, we have distributed Tarpaulins, Mosquito nets, and Hygiene kits. We have distributed tarpaulins to prepare for temporary shelters whose houses were washed out and waterlogged. The State Branch issued hygiene kits, mosquito nets, and hygiene kits to the District Branches. Our District Branches distributed these relief materials to the relief camps and affected communities.
Our volunteers of the State Branch and the District Branches, evacuated some patients from JNIMS and some of the vulnerable populations to safer places by using our Ambulances.
